Is the chopper synchronized to the laser frequency to block every other laser shot, or does it run at a slower speed?

We are obtaining artifacts and this concerns me somewhat about whether this has to do with the algorithm for calculating the absorption. Can you comment on whether we are in fact measuring a true pump-on/pump-off intensity ratio, and whether there are any algorithm short-cuts that could be responsible for these artifacts in intensity?
